Acconditioned biomass fly ash from ENCE biomass plant in Mérida has allowed the adsorption of heavy metals from the sewage sludge in the treatment plant located in Lobón, according to the prototype designed and developed in this plant (Action B.5).

The environmental characterization of added fly ash after the capture of heavy metals and its subsequent application in concrete, has consisted of leaching tests where the pH and conductivity measurements appear within the european and national legislation, as well as the analysis of heavy metals and other substances released into the environment through leaching processes. These tests have allowed to evaluate the inert nature of fly ash and its subsequent application as artificial lightweight aggregate in concrete, with the aim to keep favorable conditions in the environment.
In the Action B.8 and through new progress, INTROMAC promotes the circular economy model based on the use of industrial waste as new materials for the manufacture of new construction materials. These advances are related to the influence of the substitution of natural aggregate for ash aggregates in regard to the thermal and acoustic behavior in concrete.
